NCYABA

Are you reading the North Carolina Young Adult Book Award titles?  Tell everyone what you think!  Click on the title of the book and write your

comments.  Explain why you liked the book (or didn’t) and rate the book on a scale of 1 Yuck (yuck!) to 5 (one of the best books ever read!).  No spoilers–that means don’t give away the ending or any surprising details.  You are encouraged to respond to other people’s comments as well–just remember WE SEE EVERYTHING before it is posted:-)

In March, participants will be voting for their favorite title.

If you are having problems trying to come up with things to comment on, these questions may help you:

1) Plot – Are there flashbacks you can write about? What is the conflict?  Is it suspenseful, if so explain.

2) Ending – Is it a satisfying ending? Is it open ended?

3) Characters – Are they likeable, realistic, well-rounded or flat?  What are their internal motivations?

4) Style – What is the author’s style, voice, tone? Is there any poetic language/figurative language you want to comment on?

5) Setting – Is it interesting, realistic, inventive?

6) Theme - What would be a deeper meaning that the novel is trying to portray?

7) Audience – Who would like to read this novel?

8) Young Adult Book Award worthiness – Is it worthy? Why/why not?
